The Reality of Ecological Overshoot
“Borrowed time and borrowed world and borrowed eyes with which to sorrow it.”
You may remember the post I shared, Dreaming of Solarpunk futures in a world on fire, that included a paper for an assignment for my Social Analysis and Community Engagement class called “Imagining Wakanda” where we were tasked with writing short paper that identified a social problem, and then posits a fictional utopian world/place in which this problem does not exists.
In my paper I took on the issue of Ecological Overshoot and worked to briefly imagine a solarpunk future Appalachia learning to live in the wake of societal collapse and climate crisis called “The Common Wealth of New Appalachia.” With the term almost over and my final project/paper almost complete, I realized that I forgot to share the second paper that builds on the one I shared earlier this fall.
This second paper was written to help identify and critically analyze the relational, systemic, and structural nature and reality of Ecological Overshoot and perform an analysis that unpacks its complex existence. I hope you enjoy this paper because I am looking forward to sharing the third final constructive paper in this series once the term comes to a close.
